Dongwe Beach (Zanzibar): south-east coast, hotels, tides and tips
Dongwe is a beach on the south-east coast, an extension of Bwejuu and Paje, known for upscale hotels and villas: guides note few budget options. As everywhere on this coast, the sea goes out at low tide: check tide times before planning a swim. The most cited hotels: The Palms Zanzibar (all-inclusive, private beach, four-poster beds, about 55 minutes by road from the airport and 3.5 km from Bwejuu according to resellers) and Dongwe Ocean View (oceanfront rooms with balcony or terrace, pool, beach bar, restaurant). Baraza and Breezes, in Bwejuu, are placed in the same area by some sites.

Tips
- Who it suits: travellers who want an upscale hotel in peace, without nightlife, and accept the tide. Not for a small budget (see cheap Zanzibar) nor for swimming at any hour (see Kendwa and tides in Zanzibar). To compare neighbouring beaches: Paje, Jambiani and Bwejuu. To choose an area: where to stay in Zanzibar. The information comes from booking sites and one blog, not an official site; no reliable information on Dongwe's tide times was found, so check a tide table for the south-east coast.
How to get there
Dongwe is about 55 minutes by road from the airport according to one reseller; book a transfer: from the airport to your hotel.
