Bwejuu beach: the calm between Paje and Michamvi (tide, hotels, restaurants)
Bwejuu is a village and beach on the south-east coast of Zanzibar, next to Paje. Guides describe it as a quiet, little-visited area, with long stretches of white sand, coconut palms and a few hotels and small restaurants, far from the bustle of Paje. It is a good choice for resting, but not for going out in the evening. As on the whole east coast, the tide rules the day: at low tide the sea draws back very far and swimming is mostly at high tide. The information below comes from booking sites and guides checked in October 2026; there is no official source for a free beach.
Highlights

The beach at low tide
A long ribbon of white sand, boats stranded and a lagoon that empties. At low tide you walk a long way in the shallows.

Paje, the neighbour
To the south, Paje beach has the same tide and more life; see Paje beach and kitesurfing in Paje.
The beachfront hotels
The places listed on booking sites range from the small boutique hotel (such as Sand Beach, with a bar and restaurant on the beach) to the villas of a resort (such as Baraza). Prices change with the season: check them when booking.

Tips
- Look at the day's tide times before planning to swim: a hotel "facing the sea" can have the water far away at low tide, and some east-coast hotels depend on their pool then. For food, beach restaurants show main dishes of about 8 to 18 EUR according to booking sites (October 2026). For excursions, Bwejuu is well placed for The Rock, for Jozani forest and for Michamvi Kae. To compare areas, see where to stay in Zanzibar.
How to get there
Bwejuu is about 1 to 1 hour 15 minutes by road from the airport and Stone Town (guides' estimate), a few kilometres from Paje. Private transfer or taxi to book in advance: see from the airport to your hotel. Dala-dalas serve the east coast from Stone Town; check the lines on the spot.
