Baraza Resort & Spa (Bwejuu): review, villas, private pool and alternatives

Updated on October 26, 2026

Baraza Resort & Spa is a small luxury hotel of 30 villas on Bwejuu-Paje beach on the east coast. The one- or two-bedroom villas are spread through a garden, each with a private terrace and private plunge pool. According to resellers they have air conditioning, a dressing room, minibar and a bathroom with freestanding bath, in a decor mixing Swahili, Arabic and Indian styles (arches, antiques, brass lanterns). One listing mentions a butler service. Resellers give no reliable rate grid: ask for the price for your date. Like the whole east coast, the beach is subject to the tide.

Highlights

The pool

The pool

The hotel's pool and garden: where you spend time when the sea has gone out.

Bwejuu at low tide

Bwejuu at low tide

Bare sand and the sea far off: swimming depends on tide times.

The villas

Private terrace and pool, living room and bedroom; the large villa has a master bedroom with a freestanding bath and a second en-suite bedroom.

The decor

Swahili arches, handmade furniture, brass lanterns: the hotel's identity.

Practical info

Tips

  • Who it suits: couples, honeymooners and travellers who want privacy and a private pool rather than a big resort. Not for a small budget or for swimming at any hour (see tides and swimming). Bigger and more family-oriented in the same area: Breezes Beach Club. For the beach: Bwejuu; for a honeymoon: Zanzibar honeymoon; to compare areas: where to stay in Zanzibar. The information comes from agencies and resellers, not the hotel's own site; have villas, meals and prices confirmed.

How to get there

Bwejuu is on the east coast; book a transfer: from the airport to your hotel.

Opening hours

Best: June to October and December to March
Check-in and check-out to be confirmed with the hotel when you book.
