Cheetah's Rock Zanzibar: price, visit and the ethics of meeting cheetahs (2026)
Cheetah's Rock is a private wildlife sanctuary at Kama on Zanzibar's west coast, about 30 minutes' drive north of Stone Town. You book a guided visit to get close to cheetahs and other animals. Only one travel site gives prices, which we could not confirm with the venue: about USD 160 for the wildlife tour, USD 150 for an otter experience and USD 280 for the combined package. Advance booking is required and a minimum age of 15 is mentioned. The opening times quoted (morning and early afternoon) vary by source: confirm directly with the centre.
Highlights

The cheetahs
Photo of a cheetah on mainland Tanzania, not of the sanctuary. At Cheetah's Rock the visit is guided and how close you get depends on the programme you choose.
The wildlife tour
The most quoted option: a guided visit of several enclosures, to book in advance.
The otter experience
A separate option, a little cheaper according to the only price we found.

Tips
- On ethics, be clear-eyed: wildlife conservation groups generally advise against direct contact with wild animals, since it can stress them and normalise captivity. We could not verify where the animals come from or the sanctuary's accreditation: ask before you pay. If contact bothers you, choose a real safari on the mainland, see our comparison of safaris from Zanzibar. Prices are unofficial and vary by source; do not expect to buy on the day.
How to get there
Kama is on the west coast, about 30 minutes' drive north of Stone Town (estimate). Private taxi or hotel transfer: see getting around Zanzibar. For a more classic nature outing, Jozani forest has red colobus monkeys.
