Saadani National Park: safari from Zanzibar or Dar es Salaam, prices, Wami River boat (2026)
Saadani is a national park on the Tanzanian coast, created in 2005, where the bush meets the beach. It is easy to add to a Zanzibar stay: excursions leave the island by fast boat (60 to 90 minutes according to a trade site) or by plane, with a 4x4 safari and a boat on the Wami River (hippos, crocodiles, birds). Prices of October 2026 on booking sites: about 297 to 570 dollars for the day from Dar es Salaam, 350 dollars from Pangani (8 hours), and 410 to 1,000 dollars for 2 days from Zanzibar depending on the option.
Highlights

The bush near the coast
Giraffes, buffalo, zebras and antelopes; lions, elephants and leopards exist, but are rarely seen according to one offer.

The sunset
A picnic lunch or a night by the ocean is included in several packages.
The boat on the Wami
A boat trip along the mangroves to see hippos, crocodiles and birds; it is the surest part of the safari.

Tips
- Which option to choose from Zanzibar. The 1-day fast boat is the cheapest (30 dollars park fees included on one offer) but very long. The 2-day flight is the most comfortable (night at the lodge, night game drive on some offers, 410 to 1,000 dollars depending on the page): it is our choice to see more animals. The day from Dar es Salaam or Pangani is only worth it if you already stay there. Saadani is not Nyerere or the Serengeti for big game; it is the right option for a short safari without a scheduled flight. To compare, see safari from Zanzibar: which one to choose and Nyerere from Zanzibar.
How to get there
Fast boat from Zanzibar (60 to 90 minutes, according to a trade site), private or shared flight, or road from Dar es Salaam (about 2 hours, via Bagamoyo according to one offer) or Pangani.
