Materuni Waterfalls and Coffee Tour from Moshi: price, duration and which to pick (2026)
The Materuni waterfall (about 90 m high according to tour listings) and a coffee farm visit are usually combined in one excursion, from half a day to a full day, from Moshi or Arusha on the slopes of Kilimanjaro. Allow 5 to 9 hours depending on the format, and roughly $30 to $40 per person for the basic version (guide, entrance fees and transport from Moshi), up to $80 or more with lunch or a hot spring. These prices come from resale sites in October 2026: we found no official entrance fee, so confirm what is included. This is a mainland Tanzania trip: it cannot be done as a day trip from Zanzibar.
Highlights

Kilimanjaro from Moshi
The tour starts in the Moshi area at the foot of the mountain; Materuni village sits on its slopes.
The walk to the falls
A trail through the village and its crops leads to the waterfall, with swimming at the bottom according to the listings.
Materuni coffee
You pick, hull and roast the beans by hand over a fire, then drink the coffee: this is the cultural part of the trip.
Optional hot springs
Several formats add the Kikuletwa (Chemka) hot springs for a full day.

Tips
- Choose by time: half day (about 5 to 6 h) if you are in Moshi for a trek; a full day with local lunch or hot springs if you start from Arusha. The bike version (about 40 km according to one listing, from about $56) is for fit riders only. Wear shoes with grip: the trail is slippery in the rainy season. Bring swimwear and a towel if you want to swim. For safaris from the same area see what a Tanzania safari costs and the Moshi page.
How to get there
From Moshi most formats include transport (car or tuk-tuk depending on the operator). From Arusha, add the road to Moshi. No official journey time was found: ask for the pick-up time.
