The e-visa
Apply online well before departure; several sources advise three to four weeks. Avoid sites that resell the form at a higher price and use the Tanzanian immigration portal. The visa does not give an automatic right of entry.
The mandatory insurance
According to guides, it is required to enter Zanzibar. Another national rule for all of Tanzania was announced, but we could not confirm that it applies. This mandatory insurance does not replace real health and repatriation cover; see travel insurance for Zanzibar.
Entry fees on site
Sites and parks have their own fees, for example Chumbe's blue economy tax (25 USD per foreign adult since August 2024), see Chumbe, or the entry to Jozani. Excursions may or may not include them: ask.
