What an operator price covers

A serious quote includes park fees, lead guide and assistants, porters, cook, group equipment (tents, meals), transfers and a hotel night before and after. Rarely included: flights, visa, insurance, personal gear and tips. A price far below the park fees above should raise a flag: the savings come from wages, safety or food.

Choosing an operator

Ask for the registered company name, TANAPA licence, crew size per client, the success ratio on your route, the pulse oximeter and emergency oxygen, and how porters are paid. Read recent reviews on several sites. Compare routes in the route comparison.

Tips and extras

Tips for the crew are expected at the end. Ask your operator for its written scale and hand over the money in front of the whole group rather than to the guide alone. Budget also for gear (sleeping bag, jackets) rented locally, and check insurance and vaccines.

When should I book?

Several months ahead for high season, January to March and June to October.
